Every species has its champion, its Queen. The Queen of Bees is a warm, vibrant yet soft presence, drifting gracefully through her subjects as she celebrates their beauty. When she calls to them they rise around her in a whirlwind of buzzing, wings beating furiously and striped bodies flashing by in a joyous blur. She dances with them, sings their humming songs, and cradles their featherlight bodies when they fall.
She is fading from our world along with her people, becoming a little more translucent, a little more ghostly as they die one by one. Soon she'll be nothing more than a wisp, a fluttering breath of warm air on the breeze, but she'll stay until the final bee perishes-
And then she'll be gone forever.
